Dr. Karyn A. Havas was a US Army Veterinary Corps Officer through August 2014 when she retired from service. She then served as the Diagnostic Services Section Head for the USDA Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center. Following that experience, she was a Section Chief of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and a founding faculty member of the Cornell Master of Public Health Program where she continues to work on transboundary swine diseases as well as swine brucellosis.
Today, Karyn lives in Pennsylvania and acts as the Director of Veterinary Epidemiology as part of the Pipestone Research team.
Karyn received her D.V.M in 2005 from Cornell University, her PhD in epidemiology in 2011 from Colorado State University and her Masters in applied economics from Purdue University in 2018. She is a board certified Diplomat in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine with a specialty designation in epidemiology.
