Pipestone Research Innovation Hub

Innovation Hub

The Pipestone Research Innovation Hub is a research-centered work space designed to generate subject-matter expertise on technology, health, strategic innovation management, and industry-specific insights.

Our research scientists, statisticians, and trial managers meet with decision makers to discuss complex business challenges and flush-out effective solutions to current and future potential problems.

An industry first, the Pipestone Research Innovation Hub, enables active knowledge transfer between our researchers and other animal experts internally which is then shared with the swine industry stakeholders, appropriate government agencies and representatives of academia.

Some of the latest innovation hub solutions generated are…

Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic Resistance is a concern for us all.  We are taking action to collect Antimicrobial Resistance data at the farm level.  Through the IMAGINE Project, data will be collected over an extended period of time across the U.S. and will be compared to antibiotic use data through PART to monitor trends and better gauge how antibiotic usage impacts resistance.  Learn more here.

IMAGINE is a PIPESTONE-driven project aimed at taking action to collect antimicrobial resistance surveillance data at the farm level. Because it’s the first of its kind and we need accurate data to support action, our collection will span extended periods of time across different geographic portions of the US.

These data findings will be compared in real time with antibiotic use data from our PART (Pipestone Antibiotic Resistance Tracker) program. This project will serve as a model to advance the US swine industry to the global forefront in the areas of Responsible Antibiotic Use and Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance.

Foreign Animal Disease

We proved that viral pathogens of pigs can survive in certain feed ingredients during simulated commercial transit.  Our team then set to work to discover solutions through the use of feed additives to reduce viral survival.

Some of our most recent work involved:

  • PEDV Transmission and Immunity
  • Viral Survivability in Feed
  • Transboundary Disease Spread
  • Disease Mitigation Products in Feed
  • Responsible Importation Protocols
  • African Swine Fever Research Collaboration

We are collaborating both domestically and internationally on foreign animal disease projects related to surveillance, testing methodologies, vaccines, and environmental survivability.
