Community- Hunger Relief

Hunger Relief

Children and adults face hunger issues in communities across the country. Hunger and malnutrition effect rural and urban cities alike. PIPESTONE wants to help meat the need of food insecurity in those communities. We strive to make a difference not only in surrounding communities, but nation wide.

MEAT The Need

Many families continue to face the crisis of hunger insecurity at home. In an effort to supply food shelves with protein, PIPESTONE started the Meat the Need campaign in 2020. Throughout the year, PIPESTONE, alongside their supporters, was able to donate around 600,000 pounds of pork servings to local food shelves. With hunger still being an issue today, PIPESTONE launched the 2021 MEAT the Need Campaign.

“Caring is one of our core values,” stated Dr. Luke Minion, CEO of Pipestone. “We’re thankful to be able to donate pork and help MEAT the Need of food insecurity in our communities.” He added a special thanks to all of the vendors, partners, employees of PIPESTONE and pig farmers for their contributions to MEAT the Need.

This year, the Meat the Need campaign took place October through December, donating to local food shelves and Operation BBQ Relief to help serve hot meals during times of natural disaster. The local food shelves’ distributions were in communities where PIPESTONE employees and farmers live and work. Those locations were:

Independence, IA • Orange City, IA • Ottumwa, IA • Pipestone, MN • Rensselaer, IN • Sioux Falls, SD • Sycamore, IL
